EMAIL SETUP: EUDORA
These instructions are for setting up your email in the latest
version of the Eudora email application, Eudora 7. Settings may be
slightly different for previous versions. If you need assistance
setting up an earlier version, please visit the Eudora Forums.
The examples in this tutorial use "mail.domain.com" as the
POP and SMTP servers. When setting up your email account, use your
Web site's domain name in place of "domain.com". For example,
if your domain name is "joesgarage.com" then your
mail servers would be "mail.joesgarage.com". Your
email address would be "yourname@joesgarage.com".
1. Open Eudora and choose 'Tools -
Personalities.'

2. Right-click on the Personalities pane
that opens on the left of the screen and choose
'New.'

3. Use the wizard to 'Create a brand
new email account.'

4. Name your account.

5. Put your name in the 'Your
Name' field.

6. Enter your email address in the
'Email Address'
field.

7. Enter your ENTIRE email address into the
'User Name'
field.

8. Your incoming mail server is
'mail.domain.com'
(where domain.com is your Web site domain).

9. Your outgoing mail server is also
'mail.domain.com.' Be sure to leave the
'Allow Authentication'
box
checked.
NOTE: Your ISP may
require you to use a different outgoing SMTP server. Click here for more
information.

10. Finish the wizard by clicking
'Finish.'

11. At this point, you may be finished setting up Eudora for
use with your new Q5 Media email account.
However, your ISP may require that you use its SMTP server for
sending mail and not the Q5 Media SMTP server 'mail.domain.com'
(where domain.com is your Web site's domain name) AND that server
may require authentication - meaning, you must also send a username
and password when sending email.
If you have set up your email account to use
your ISP's SMTP server (for example, putting your ISP's
SMTP information in the 'Outgoing Server'
field ) and sending email works, then you do not need to take
any further action. If you have set up your ISP's SMTP as the
'Outgoing Server'
and sending does not
work, you will need to take the following steps.
1. If you already have an email address set up in Eudora for your
ISP (for example, jane_doe@earthlink.net)
then skip this step and go to step 5.
If you do not already have an email account
set up for your ISP, go to 'Tools - Personalities'
in Eudora.

2. Right-click on the Personalities pane
that opens on the left of the screen and choose
'New.
'
3. Choose 'Skip directly to advaned
account setup' in the New Account Wizard and click
'Finish.'

3. Create a personality which will use your
user name and password as required by your ISP to send mail. Enter
your name in the Real Name field, enter your email
address in the Return Address field. Next, enter
your sending mail user name (your User Name for your ISP
account) in the User Name field, then enter your ISP's outgoing
mail server in the SMTP Server field. Make sure the
"Check Mail" box in the lower left hand corner is
not checked if you do not wish to check mail on this email account.
If you do plan on using this personality to check mail select the
"Incoming Mail" tab and enter the POP server as provided by your
ISP. Click "OK"
when you are finished.

5. Choose 'Tools -
Options...' from the main menu.
6. Click 'Sending Mail' in
the left-hand side menu on the Options window. Note that the
'SMTP Relay Personality'
set here, by default,
is 'None.'
If it is not 'None' then you have already gone through this
process - perhaps with the help of your ISP. You should not make
changes at this time if this setting has already been made.
If the default 'None' is chosen, go to Step 7.
7. If the setting is 'None' then choose the SMTP Relay
personality you just set up from the drop-down list of available
personalities.

All messages sent from each of your personalities will use the
email address for that selected personality. It will not use the
email address for the specified "SMTP Relay Personality". For
example, if you bring your computer to work, you can easily change
your SMTP relay to a personality which uses a different ISP to send
mail through your work connection. Or you can set the SMTP
relay personality to "None" so that you can send mail using the
settings specified for each personality.
